Dr. Arun Bal is a senior medical professional with over four decades of experience in the field of surgery, with a specific focus on diabetic foot care. He holds an MBBS and MS (General Surgery) from the University of Mumbai, completed in 1977, and earned a Ph.D. in Political Science in 2005 with a research focus on healthcare as a human right. Since 1986, Dr. Arun Bal has been actively involved in the management and surgical treatment of diabetic foot conditions. His expertise covers diabetic foot surgery, transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO2) evaluation, and rehabilitative foot procedures. Over the years, he has contributed extensively to academic, clinical, and advocacy efforts in diabetic foot care.
Dr. Arun Bal currently serves as the Director of Diabetic Foot Surgery at S.L. Raheja Hospital – A Fortis Associate, Mahim, Mumbai. In addition to his clinical practice, he has held various leadership roles in national and international medical organizations. These include serving as the Ex Editor of the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics, Ex Convener of the Ethics Committee at the Medical Council of India (2010–2013), and President of both the Diabetic Foot Society of India and the Association for Consumer Action on Safety & Health (ACASH). Internationally, he holds the positions of Secretary of the International Association of Diabetic Foot Surgeons in Denmark and Vice President of the International Surgical Society for Limb Salvage. His contributions to limb salvage and diabetic foot care have been recognized through several honors, including an oration and award from Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C.
