Two Lives, Two Mothers This Mother’s Day Fortis Noida Honors Maternal Love with Lifesaving Kidney Transplants

 Noida, 9th May 2025: In a powerful celebration of maternal love ahead of Mother’s Day, Doctors at Fortis Hospital, Noida successfully performed two lifesaving critical kidney transplants, offering a new chance at life to two men battling end-stage kidney diseases. The surgeries led by Dr. Anuja Porwal, Director – Nephrology, Fortis Hospital Noida, alongwith Dr. Piyush Varshney, Director – Urology & Kidney Transplant, Fortis Hospital Noida, demonstrated the unique strength and compassion that define motherhood in its many forms. 

A 37-year-old man from Hapur, Uttar Pradesh was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD). After discontinuing his prescribed allopathic medication, he switched to alternative Ayurvedic treatments, which further deteriorated his kidney functions. When admitted to Fortis Hospital, Noida, the patient was hypertensive, weak, and no longer eligible for dialysis due to the damage in his blood vessels. With his elderly parents unsuitable as donors and with his wife and brother both having incompatible blood groups, hope seemed lost, until his 53-year-old mother-in-law stepped forward. Declaring, “I am also his mother,” she offered to donate her kidney. After successfully passing compatibility and health evaluations, she donated her left kidney, giving her son-in-law a renewed lease on life. The transplant was successfully performed just in time as without it the patient would have had only a few years to live. He has since been living a healthy life. 

In another similar case, a 40-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut also suffered from advanced kidney failure following a similar shift from prescribed treatment to alternative therapy, leaving the life expectancy to only a few years, if not treated in time. After being referred to Fortis Hospital, Noida, he was advised an urgent kidney transplant due to his deteriorating condition. Both his wife and 66-year-old mother came forward as potential donors. After a genetic match, his mother was verified as the perfect donor. She donated her kidney to the son, providing him with a second chance at life.  

The operation was completed successfully, and the patient was discharged in a stable condition.

Medically, their survival was dependent on receiving transplants immediately.
